The post-season shake-up of Nebraska Volleyball continues with another departure.
Megan Miller, the sophomore defensive specialist, entered the transfer portal Tuesday. She joins Capri Davis, Anezka Szabo, and Chen Abromovich as players looking to play elsewhere in 2020. Davis will play at Texas while Szabo will play for Kansas.
Coach John Cook said he is looking at bolstering the roster with the best available talent.
“We’re always looking, and we’re looking at transfers. There’s still some 2020 kids out there that we’re looking at,” said Cook. “Recruiting never stops, especially now in this day and age with the portal.”
Other changes will be among the coaching staff. Kayla Banwarth left an assistant position open when she took the head coach job at Mississippi. Former player and grad assistant Kelly Hunter will be the interim assistant coach until Tyler Hildebrand returns to the program in August as the new associate head coach.
“I’m so happy to get to have more time to learn from Coach Cook,” said Hildebrand in a release. “One year wasn’t nearly enough. He pushes me to be a better coach, and I can’t say that about many people.”
Hildebrand is currently serving as the Director of Coaching for the USA Volleyball Beach National Team Program where he will be through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“I’ve been to the Olympics as a coach. It’s the greatest sporting event in the world,” said Cook. “The experience he’s gonna get between now and then and the pressure that they’re gonna have to try to medal in the men’s and women’s for beach volleyball will only help him as a coach and develop skills to come here and help us.”
The team meets for the first time today and will resume training Thursday. The Beach Volleyball season begins February 21 against Park.
