Kayla Mershon Transferring from Nebraska to Minnesota

Another transfer from Nebraska women’s basketball.

Sophomore Kayla Mershon joins fellow sophomore Ashtyn Veerbeek in leaving the program. While Veerbeek is going to Dordt at the NAIA level, Mershon is off to Big Ten foe Minnesota.

Mershon made the announcement via her Instagram account Tuesday.

In the post, Mershon thanks Nebraska basketball “for all that they’ve taught and done for me” and goes on to say “after much deliberation I have decided to return home and continue my career as a Minnesota Gopher.”

The Chanshassen, Minnesota native played in all 30 games this past season while starting one, averaging 1.6 points and 2.5 rebounds on 34.7-percent shooting. In her freshman campaign, she started 14 of the 30 games, averaging 3.2 points and 3.0 rebounds.
