Lincoln Police Chief, Local Officials To Kneel At City's George Floyd Memorial

By News Jun 2, 2020 | 10:50 AM

Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister, along with a contingent of LPD officers, will meet with Lincoln community leaders this afternoon to honor the memory of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis and whose death has been the subject of protests, some violent, across the country, including in Lincoln.

The meeting is set to begin at 2 p.m at the Malone Community Center, also the location of the city’s George Floyd memorial.

Officer Luke Bonkiewicz reports the Chief Bliemeister, the officers, and the officials will kneel in a moment of silence to honor the memory of George Floyd, and place flowers at the site.

“In addition, the moment is intended to recognize and acknowledge law enforcement’s past actions and the role that the police profession has played in society’s historical mistreatment of communities of color,” said Bonkiewicz.

We will have a live stream of the event available on KLIN’S Facebook page.
