You Won't Believe Where Vanilla Flavoring Comes From

By News Nov 9, 2020 | 1:31 PM

I saw a viral post on Facebook that asks people to search “where does vanilla flavoring come from” and what I saw was… kind of gross.

According to the National Geographic website, Beaver Butts Goo (Castoreum) has been used on foods and perfumes for over 80 years and yes, it comes from the anus of Beavers. They use these secretions to mark territory in wildlife.

It doesn’t end there. This Castoreum is also used to make Strawberry and Raspberry flavorings.

Would you still enjoy the holiday season the same way now that you know where the flavor of most festive foods comes from?
